      Living Classics

      A new way to learn classics!

      The Young Readers competition is one of the largest children’s literature projects that brings together the spontaneity, uniqueness and vibrancy of children’s talents.

      Why should I take part in this competition?

      The Young Readers competition helps to instill a love of reading to a young generation through meeting great works of world literary heritage, as well as to inspire them to create and express themselves in a new way. The competition gives an opportunity to engage with other young speakers from all over the world.

      Participation fee: Participation if FREE and open to all children aged from 10 to 17.

      Awards: All participants receive certificates, and the top winners also look forward to special prizes.

      Construct:

      Participants are expected to recite a fragment of any classical prosaic text written in (or translated into) the Russian language.

      Terms and conditions:

      • Anyone between the ages of 10 and 17 may participate in the competition;
      • Competition is free of charge for all participants;
      • Participants may read their fragments by heart or use a print out for their convenience;
      • Each performance is expected to last between 2 and 5 minutes.

      Competition Dates:

      The contest is split into several rounds:

      • Classes round (Levels 5 – 11, АР, PC);
      • School round at Metaphor School;
      • Regional round;
      • National final in Washington, D.C.

      Registration:

      • Please register for participation at our school at Events@MetaphorSchool.org;
      • Choose a part of the classics OR ask our teachers to help your child to choose, learn and prepare a performance.

      How can I prepare for the competition?

      Metaphor teachers will be happy to help our students ages 10 and older to find a suitable book and to prepare a memorable performance for the contest.
