Metaphor offers you a unique opportunity to check your Russian knowledge while taking the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL/ТРКИ) – a contemporary test of Russian language for foreign citizens compliant with the best European quality standards.
Why should I take this exam?
The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL/ТРКИ) is a world-wide acknowledged standardized Russian proficiency test supervised by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. After successfully passing the test foreign citizens receive an internationally recognized TORFL certificate which confirms their level of language competence in Russian as a foreign language.
Exam structure:
The test is a part of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and has six different levels, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2).

Each level comprises five modules testing linguistic skills in:
- Section 1: Vocabulary and Grammar
- Section 2: Reading
- Section 3: Writing
- Section 4: Listening Comprehension
- Section 5: Speaking
All five competencies are equally weighted – 20% each. There are three pass grades: A, B and C and certificates are awarded to all successful candidates.

How will I get the internationally recognized TORFL certificate?
To pass the exam, you must score at least 66% for each test section. After successfully passing, foreign citizens receive a TORFL certificate recognizing their language level and confirming their competence in Russian as a foreign language. The certificate is valid forever. The official certificate is designed with security features in order to avoid fraud. Please follow the link to see examples>>
The form and procedure of issuing the TORFL certificates are determined by the Order of the Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation of 25 April 2014 No. 412.
What if I did not get high enough scores?
If the tester received less than 66% in one of the test sections, he/she is entitled once again for an additional fee (50% of the exam cost) to be retested on the failed test section. In this case, a test certificate is issued, in which all the results obtained are indicated. The certificate is valid for 2 years and can be submitted for transfer to any educational institution that is part of the Russian state testing system.
When re-taking the exam, test sections which were successfully passed will not be re-taken.

Due to quarantine measures the next examination date is postponed.
Where can I take this exam?
Metaphor is an official partner of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in America, which is authorized as an educational organization conducting the testing of Russian as a foreign language and provides the successful candidates with internationally recognized certificates. You can take the test right at our Center, which is authorized as an official test center.
